"Tell the chef, the beer is on me."
I wrote recently about Kyoto Station, a masterpiece of architecture created by Hiroshi Hara, the same architect who designed my favorite skyscraper, Umeda Sky Building from Osaka. Today, I would like to show you a different view of this magnificent construction, a nighttime photo taken from the Kyoto Tower.
The Kyoto Station is actually a conglomerate of buildings, each with its own architecture, with an inner courtyard. On the inside, the Kyoto Station looks spectacular, but seen from above looks equally amazing. To the left, the block with smaller windows is the Granvia Hotel and to the right you can see the commercial area, while the semi-covered inner courtyard is visible in the middle…
As you know, every time I visit a city I first search for tall observatories… But before climbing to the observatory I like to study a bit, to learn about the area’s important buildings, because once I’m up there I like to play and search for these buildings. That’s what I’ve done in the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower: looking towards Shibuya, I searched for and found its two representative glass buildings.
Here’s how you can identify them in this photo: first you can easily identify the Yoyogi National Gymnasium Main Arena (the large building with the curved roof). Right in front of it, you will see the blue glass rhomboidal building, Audi Forum Tokyo, known as “the Iceberg". Following the same line, right in the forefront of the photo you will find the second spectacular glass building from Shibuya, the pyramid-shaped Prada Boutique Aoyama.
The Takadanobaba neighborhood is renowned in Tokyo for its ramen restaurants and inexpensive izakaya, frequented by the many students accommodated in the area.
When you come to Takadanobaba, the first thing you will notice is the huge Big Box, a commercial building looking exactly like the name suggests: a 9-story tall box, beautifully lit at night time. I stayed in Takadanobaba for almost two weeks, so I visited it as soon as I arrived: shops, restaurants, bowling and gaming arcades… But what’s nice is that in the evening, there’s always a large crowd of students meeting in the small park in front of it. It reminded me of my student days…

"Basically the price of a night on the town!"
"I'd love to help kickstart continued development! And 0 EUR/month really does make fiscal sense too... maybe I'll even get a shirt?" (there will be limited edition shirts for two and other goodies for each supporter as soon as we sold the 200)
